The first “Golden Week” after the earthquake
From 29 April to 8 May, Japan had the first “Golden Week” holidays after the earthquake. During this period, many Japanese took domestic as well as international trips. Here, we (the YOKOSO Japan staff) introduce our holidays with photos taken ourselves.

●Wisterias and Azaleas at Kameido Tenjin Shrine
Kameido Tenjin Shrine is famous for its flowers, attracting thousands of flower lovers throughout the year. During the Golden Week, wisterias and azaleas were just in full bloom. (Photo taken by Mr. Murata on 4 May)

●Mt. Takao
It was a very fine day and a number of people enjoyed hiking at Mt. Takao, a “Michelin 3 Stars” site. (Photos taken by Mr. Asakawa on 8 May)

●Futako Tamagawa RISE
Futako Tamagawa RISE is a grand shopping centre recently opened in front of Futako Tamagawa Station of Tokyu Shin Tamagawa Line. The photo on the left is a scene of a long line of people at the entrance, while on the right is a scene of a sales floor. (Photos taken by Mr. Asakawa on 3 May)

●Sumo Wrestling Practice Match at Ryogoku Kokugikan (Sumo Hall)
The picture is a scene of practice match of YOKOZUNA (Sumo Grand Champion) and other high ranking wresters, which was observed prior to Sumo Grand Tournament by the YOKOZUNA Deliberation Council members to discuss whether the wrestlers deserve their rank. (Photo taken by Mr. Kageyama on 29 April)

●Kappabashi Dougu Street
Kappabashi Dougu Street is a famous kitchen and restaurant equipment wholesale district. Apart from shops selling general equipment, there are also shops selling fake food samples, or mobile phone straps and magnets attached with food samples. These souvenirs are very popular among overseas tourists. (Photos taken by Mr. Kageyama on 29 April)

●Mashiko Pottery Market in Tochigi
At the Mashiko Pottery Market, one can find every kind of Mashiko potteries including art objects as well as more ordinary kitchen wares such as cups and plates. The market is a popular event: 73,879 tourists visited there on 3 May alone; while in the whole period from 29 April to 5 May, the number counted as many as 468,300 people. (Photos taken by Ms. Shimura on 3 May)

●Supermarket, Convenience Store, Railway Station
Just after the earthquake, supermarkets and convenience stores in Kanto Region ran short of goods. Now, the shops have returned to normal with full supply of goods. Bottle of water, previously particularly in short, is now sold at many shops up to 1 or 2 bottles per person. In the mean time, a lot of people gathered at Shinjuku Station just as usual, even it was in the middle of the “Golden Week” long holidays. (Photos taken by Mr. Asakawa on 3 May, by Ms. Quan on 7 May and by Ms. Huang on 30 April)
